INDEPENDENT DRIVERS GUILD RALLIES FOR THE RIGHT TO BARGAIN

June 16, 2021

Uber, Lyft and Via have become a staple in our everyday lives. But as the rideshare industry continues to grow, it’s our responsibility to make sure that rideshare drivers are protected. And that is exactly why the Independent Drivers Guild (IDG) rallied on June 2 in Long Island City, Queens, outside of Uber offices, in support of passing legislation that would give drivers the right to unionize. This vibrant rally featured a range of speakers, including IDG members, drivers, and both local and upcoming politicians.

Now you may be wondering: who is the IDG? The Independent Drivers Guild is a Machinists Union affiliate that represents over 80,000 For-Hire Vehicle drivers in NYC and advocates for more than 250,000 across NY, NJ, CT, MA and IL. Founded in 2016, IDG is the leading driver organization in the nation by virtue of accomplishments through direct actions and advocacy. Most recently, IDG is pushing for the Right to Bargain bill, which will be a vehicle for higher wages, better working conditions, and protection from discrimination.

At the rally, drivers and delivery workers spoke out for collective bargaining rights with speeches and signs. Join your sisters and brothers in IDG to fight for economic justice. Want to learn more and how to get involved? Check out Right to Bargain at righttobargainny.org
